Case Study, Elm Tree, Liberton Primary School.
TD Tree & Land Services are the Main Framework Contractor for City of Edinburgh Council, we were asked by the Council to remove a diseased Elm tree from the school grounds. The tree was infected with the fungus Kretschmaria deusta, as there was no room to fell the tree we dismantled the tree piece by piece, sections over the school grounds were allowed to free fall while those hanging over the fence were lowered on ropes and a capstan.
The tree was extremely large for a city tree, being over 90 feet high and contained a huge amount of timber, it took a team of 4 men 3 days to complete the job. Two climbers worked the tree simultaneously while two men on the ground stacked the brash ready for chipping. The wood chip was taken off site where is was re-used as wood fuel and mulch, the timber was removed with our Valtra tractor with its roof mounted crane and extracted from the site.
