Stump Removal

We provide tree stump remove services for customers in Edinburgh and throughout southern and central Scotland.

Tree stumps can be left in the ground after felling but this can lead to problems with suckering where new shoots arise from the trunk and roots.

Completely dead stumps won’t form suckers, but they can play host to root diseases such as honey fungus, so aren’t worth leaving in and taking the risk.

We can grind out tree stumps of any size in any location using our mechanical stump grinders. It is most economical to do this when the tree is being felled, but stumps can be removed at any time.

It is worth thinking about how deeply you would like the stump ground out: shallow grinding (20-25cm / 8-10”) is normally sufficient for laying  turf, but you should allow for deeper (30cm/12” or more) if replanting or landscaping.

We can put all the sawdust grindings back into the hole to break down into the soil or we can remove them from site and replace them with topsoil ready for planting or turfing.
